Artist Profile

Jean Arp was a Dada artist that was very intelligent. Over the time in his career being an artist, he was very abstract in his work and was a founder of Dada. All the movements he was in, for example hanging out with Surrealists, and his playful, amoeba forms had a huge impact on his art. The most impact was mainly in the Performance movement of art. Besides doing Dada artwork that he was fantastic at, he also worked in collage and printmaking. Some of his famous works are, Collage Arranged According to the Laws of Chance, Configuration, and Torso.

DADA art

DADA art is a movement after WWI in visual art as well as literature, theatre, and design. The art shows what Dadaists belieived politically in that time with art and everyday society. It influences later movements of arts including pop art, antiart, abstract art and sound poetry, performance art, and started the foundation for Surrealism. Many dada artist were veterans of WWI and had cynical minds from what they saw over in the war. This helped create art that was random forms of creation. Dada art is nonsense art and is very confusing. Dad art was a way to express the confusion that was felt by many people as their world was turned upside down.

Here are some examples of DADA art:

Ernst. oedipus rex. 1922. ''German Dada artist Max Ernst was one of the first to take his inspiration from De Chirico’s teachings, with such masterpieces as Oedipus Rex (1922). Ernst, arguably one of the greatest surrealist artists, explored the opportunities offered by chance and by subconscious automatism ''

I think DADA art is very interesting. I do not like that it doesn't make sense in the photos but I do like how they are different and unusual. They show that the artist had an imagination and was very creative with how they put objects together to make something. Dada art in my opinion is not like any other art but definitely has to come from a person that has stories behind their art and why they put the things together the way they did.
